She is the sole provider of food for her family and hopes that Gale will take care of them if, by chance, she is killed. Throughout the actual Hunger Games, there are multiple times when Katniss thinks back to her mother and sister at home and ponders what would happen to them if she was killed. I think that Prim serves as a huge reminder to Katniss of what’s back at home, in District 12, and why she HAS to stay alive. This was very obvious at the reaping when Prim’s name was called and Katniss volunteered to take her place. Not only did Katniss do a lot for Prim, but she was also very protective of her. She even gave Prim a goat, Lady for her birthday one year. For instance, Katniss hunted for food and traded and sold things at the Hob to get by. She also did everything she knew how to do to keep Prim safe and happy. It is very apparent that Prim and Katniss have a strong relationship in “The Hunger Games.” Katniss stated that Prim was the only one she was sure she loved. She is kind and understanding at the hardest of times and seems much softer on the outside compared to her “hard-shelled” sister. Prim loves all living creatures, from their ugly cat, Buttercup, to their once ailing goat, Lady. She has blonde hair, like their mother, and has a knack for healing. Prim is unlike Katniss in almost every way, from her looks to her character. Primrose “Prim” Everdeen is Katniss Everdeen’s younger sister.
